About MIHA

Malaysian Industrial Hygiene Association (MIHA) is a non-profit professional organization founded in May 2003. It is amongst the pioneer of its kind in South East Asia. With more than 100 members within its first year, it is successfully serving the needs of its members in promoting the field of industrial hygiene, providing education and training, forums for the exchange of ideas and information plus representing the interest of Industrial Hygienists and those they provide service for. MIHA is also an affiliate member of the International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA) in pursuit of international recognition and standing.

MIHA’s vision is gearing towards achieving and maintaining the highest standards of industrial hygiene via overseeing and professionally certifying Industrial Hygienist. MIHA also wishes to promote certification by awarding certification points through a variety of MIHA and associated programmes in pursuit of continually educating Industrial Hygiene professionals.

MIHA with its passionate team of industrial hygienists and OSH practitioners will be the strongest backbone committed to make MIHAICE’22 a success!

Why MIHAICE’22

Did you know that according to the recent estimates released by the International Labour Organization (ILO), each year 2.78 million workers die from occupational accidents and work-related diseases (of which 2.4 million are disease-related) and an additional 374 million workers suffer from non-fatal occupational accidents. Closer to home, in Malaysia, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), recorded 272% increase of occupational disease cases reported in 2019 (9,860 cases) compared to 2014 (2,648 cases). Statistics have shown that occupational health hazards require serious attention and significant intervention at all levels. This should highlight the need for a new paradigm of prevention: one that also focuses on work-related diseases and not only on occupational injuries.

MIHAICE’22 will be hosted virtually this year on 19 – 20 October 2022. We will make use of a Virtual Conference Platform that will allow participants to experience the Live sessions and view recorded content on-demand 24/7 at their convenience. The Conference will run through a visually rich Virtual Platform recreating the environment of an in-person Conference. The Conference will enable networking with other participants, Speakers and Exhibitors in a variety of ways, including a dedicated networking lounge, live chat and much more. We believe that the Virtual format will ensure wider accessibility, giving the participants from various backgrounds; Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Occupational Safety and other disciplines the opportunity to benefit the most out of it. With our novel approach, we have made it affordable for everyone including university students to also participate.

The MIHAICE’22 Virtual Experience will not end with the Conference; all the conference proceedings will be made accessible 24/7 for over 15 days after the Conference closure.
We invite you to play an active role in the program, by submitting an abstract as per given timeline. This will be an excellent opportunity to contribute to the global dialogue that will bring Occupational Safety & Health management particularly on Industrial Hygiene to the next level. Selected presentation will be rewarded by the Conference Technical Committee and the paper will be published on the website post conference.

President MIHA – MESSAGE

President, MIHA – Malaysia

Head, Industrial Hygiene (Custodian), Health & Safety, PETRONAS Group HSE

On behalf of the Malaysian Industrial Hygiene Association and the MIHA ICE’22 Organizing Committee, I am pleased to bring to you the Malaysian Industrial Hygiene Association International Conference & Exhibition 2022 (MIHA ICE’22), themed “Connect and Collaborate for Resilient Worker Protection”, held virtually, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The theme for this year’s conference is to drive inter-disciplinary integration aimed at ensuring sustainable controls and worker protection.

The ILO estimates that 2.3 million women and men around the world succumb to work-related accidents or diseases every year; corresponding to over 6000 deaths every single day. Worldwide, there are around 340 million occupational accidents and 160 million victims of work-related illnesses annually. When faced with VUCA conditions, like what we all have faced over the past 2 years, where various restrictions limited time and resources, it becomes crucial to collaborate with other disciplines in implementing programs for a common goal.

MIHA ICE is a 2-yearly event that provides a platform for local and international OSH practitioners and experts to share the latest developments in Industrial Hygiene practices, which include research, best practices and lessons learnt. We aspire to continuously create the right environment for Industrial Hygienists & other OSH practitioners to collaborate in pursuit of protecting workers’ health. We believe excellent OSH levels will improve workers’ quality of life and thus contribute to increased productivity and improvement in overall well-being of the country.
We are honored to host the MIHA ICE’22, a unified platform and convergence of prominent global professionals in Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) and Industrial Hygiene (IH). Great effort has been spent in devising programs that are diverse, interactive, forward-thinking, people-focused and change-oriented. We are expecting participation of over 500 delegates around the globe. Besides the conference, the Exhibition will also feature OSH and IH products and services from various local and international companies.

This will also be a great opportunity for delegates to network, share knowledge, experiences and best practices. Together, I believe we can collectively achieve the goal of safeguarding workers health.

With that, on behalf of the organizing committee, I humbly welcome all speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, professional delegates and students to the MIHA ICE’22 and encourage active participation on top of insightful conversations. May the conference be beneficial to us all.

CONFERENCE CHAIR – MESSAGE

NORHAZLINA MYDIN

CIH, CPIH, CSFC

President, IOHA

Head Strategy & Performance, PETRONAS Group HSE – MALAYSIA

The growth of Industrial Hygiene across the globe, particularly in, Asia, has been very encouraging in the recent years. Research and advancement in the study of exposure science and the increasing trend of occupational diseases across the globe has called for various actions.

In addition, after more than two years of battling COVID-19 pandemic globally, we have seen that having a strong OSH system, which includes good collaboration and participation of various stakeholders that include governments, employers, workers and all relevant parties, has been crucial in protecting working environments and safeguarding the safety and health of workers.

As we continue to live through a global health crisis and face ongoing OSH risks at the workplace, we must continue to move towards building a stronger safety and health culture at all levels. As the advocate to build a positive OSH culture, with the mission of protecting workers’ health, MIHA is pleased to invite individuals who are passionate to contribute to this mission to be part of MIHAICE’22.

Due to continuous global health concern and its restrictions, MIHAICE’22 will be conducted via a virtual platform from 19 – 20 October 2022. Since the last MIHAICE’18, we believe that transforming the conference to a virtual will ensure the safety of all the individuals involved, able to offer the Conference to a wider network and a more successful MIHAICE’22.

This year’s program is aimed to strengthen the focus of Industrial Hygiene as we normalize our routines post the peak of the pandemic. It is very crucial for Industrial Hygienist and other OSH practitioners to influence a more focused IH program and redefine values of Industrial Hygiene in companies bottom line. Being proactive, is not an option, but a must to drive IH program, especially in curbing the long-term health effects and its associated hefty costs.

In addition, this program provides a platform for local and international experts to share Industrial Hygiene latest development, not limited to research papers, best practices and lessons learnt. We aspire to continuously create the right environment for Industrial Hygienists & other OSH practitioners to collaborate in pursuit of protecting workers’ health and contributes to company values.

With our best collaborative efforts, we are very optimistic that MIHAICE’22 will be a productive and valuable experience for the participants as there will be segments covering Technical Presentations, International Student Symposium, Paper Presentations covering Plenary, Podium & Poster sessions and Exhibitions.
Please join us online with various benefits. Looking forward to welcome you virtually in October 2022.
